Mobile DA working with Archdiocese to obtain ârelevant documentsâ in Alex Crow investigation
A day after Thomas Rodi, the Archbishop of Mobile, issued a statement rebuking claims the archdiocese isn’t doing enough to cooperate with investigators who are looking into the actions of defrocked priest Alex Crow, the Mobile County District Attorney issued one of his own.
“We appreciate Archbishop Rodi’s words regarding Alex Crow and his recognition of the seriousness of our investigation,” read the statement from district attorney Keith Blackwood.
“We ask that anyone with information relating to Alex Crow, especially in light of the Archbishop’s statement, to contact the District Attorney’s Office at (251) 574 -3400.
“We are in the process of working with the Archdiocese to retrieve any relevant documents in their possession. The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office will continue to give this case our full attention and we encourage continued cooperation in protecting our community.”
Here is full coverage of the case of Alex Crow
Crow was stripped of his duties as a priest in July after the archdiocese said he had “abandoned his assignment.”
Crow had reportedly left the country with an 18-year-old woman, with the two later located in Italy by a family member of the young woman.
At the time, about three weeks ago, Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said no criminal activity was suspected, but has since accused Crow of “grooming” the young woman, and others, while they were students at McGill-Toolen High School, where Crow lectured.
Burch has gone so far as to suggest Crow is a “pedophile,” according to WPMI, although no criminal charges have been filed.
In his Monday statement, Rodi also said Crow will not be able to return to the priesthood, regardless the outcome of the investigation.
“We see no way for Alex Crow to return to ministry and this has been shared widely in the Catholic church,” he said.
